How to Light a Preroll So It Burns Slow and Even

No grinding. No rolling. No extra work.

That is the whole point of a preroll. But "ready when you are" still has one step in it, and getting the light right is the difference between a preroll that burns slow and even and one that canoes down one side and wastes half of what you paid for.

Here is how to do it right.

Before you light it

  • Give it a gentle tap. Hold the preroll filter-side down and tap the tip lightly on a table a couple of times. This settles the flower toward the tip so it burns evenly.
  • Do not pack it tight. If it feels loose, a light tap is enough. Mashing the tip closed chokes the airflow and makes it hard to draw.
  • Twist the tip if it is open. A small twist of the paper at the tip gives you something to light that catches quickly.

Lighting it

This is where most people rush.

  1. Hold the flame just below the tip, not on it. You want the heat, not the flame, doing the work.
  2. Rotate the preroll slowly while you toast the tip. Go all the way around so the whole edge catches at the same time.
  3. Take a few short, gentle puffs while it catches. Do not pull hard. A hard first draw pulls the flame into one side and starts the canoe.
  4. Check the cherry. Once the tip glows evenly all the way around, you are lit. Put the lighter down.

If one side starts burning faster than the other, wet your fingertip and touch the fast side of the paper. It slows that edge down and lets the rest catch up.

Then take your time

THCa flower is the real thing, and OTV prerolls are hand-selected flower, not shake. A few pulls is a lot for a lot of people.

Start with two or three pulls. Then put it out and wait.

Give it ten to fifteen minutes before you decide whether you want more. Prerolls are easy to relight. Getting ahead of yourself is not easy to undo.

Putting it out and saving the rest

  • Stub it gently. Press the cherry out against a hard surface instead of grinding it. Grinding tears the paper and makes the relight harsh.
  • Let it cool, then cap it. Slide it back in the tube once it is fully out. The tube keeps it fresh and keeps the smell in.
  • Trim before you relight. Flick off the charred tip first. The first pull on a relight will taste better for it.
  • Lock it up. Out of sight and reach of kids and pets. Every time.

The short version

Tap it. Toast the tip while you rotate. Gentle puffs until it glows even. Two or three pulls. Wait.

That is it. Ready when you are.

21+ only. Do not drive or operate machinery after use. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
